Advisors' Opinion:- [By Matt DiLallo]
Taking action
Each company responded to the worsening industry in different ways. Seadrill Ltd (NYSE: SDRL ) , for example, initially thought it could make it through the storm without making any major changes. The company's first action was to announce the delaying of the deliveries of a couple of its newbuild drillships by up to six months. The company said these delays were coming from the shipyards falling behind schedule. While that might be the case, we've seen other offshore drillers like Atwood Oceanics, (NYSE: ATW ) pay extra fees in order to delay newbuild deliveries by six months hoping that the extra time would make it easier to find contracts for these rigs. - [By Ben Levisohn]
Land drillers / pressure pumpers may be approaching valuation support levels and could be triggered to consolidate if current weakness persists. The theme could nevertheless be premature in offshore drilling as larger players (Diamond Offshore Drilling (DO)/Transocean/Seadrill) are still addressing dividend concerns while smaller companies (Atwood Oceanics (ATW)/Pacific Drilling (PACD)) still trade close to replacement value.

November is just t! wo days old, but already the offshore drillers are getting hammered, with Atwood Oceanics (ATW), Transocean (RIG), Seadrill (SDRL), Noble (NE) and Diamond Offshore Drilling (DO) down more than 8% so far this month.
